Yellowbook.com has built a new microsite called SayYellowToTheFuture.
It’s a cool looking site with a sleek design and the first thing you see when you land on the home page is an automatic play video commercial. Whether you want to advertise locally, in print, or on TV, YellowBook.com promises you great advertising at great prices, but even more important than that, they promise you results. And since people are migrating from traditional avenues of finding businesses - print directories - to online directories, advertising through online yellow pages makes a lot of sense.
One of the cool features I like about the new SayYellowToTheFuture site is the YouTube Channel. This will likely be a very popular way to advertise in the future. Companies like YellowBook will open up a video channel on YouTube. The videos will be entertaining and serve well as marketing messages. Consumers will subscribe to the channels for products and services that they have an interest in and watch only the videos that look interesting to them. How effective it will be, only time will tell. But the potential is there.
Twenty years ago, if you ran a local business it was imperative to have a yellow pages listing. Today, it’s just as imperative to have a yellow pages listing online and that’s Say Yellow To The Future is all about - a marketing slogan that makes a lot of sense for our times.

For many local businesses, getting their name out there both online and offline can be a struggle. The competition seemingly increases each year and opportunities diminish for many. The best way for any local business to stay in front of their potential customer’s eyes is through online local listings. These days most consumers look to the internet when searching for the best place to provide them with exactly what they need. This is where Local Search Engine Marketing comes into play. By placing your business in these local listing sites with optimized content regarding your services, you are effectively allowing your site to be found multiple times within the search engines. For just 49.95 a month, Brick Marketing will submit your business profile along with your website, address, phone number and hours of operation to local search engines – Google Maps, Yahoo! Local, MSN Local, YellowPages.com and several more. The good thing about this service is that the business does not even need a website in order to be listed. Providing your business simply has an address and phone number, it can be listed along with every other business in your area. This is a submission service and does not guarantee a particular ranking on any search engine but does mean your business will exist on the web if it doesn’t already. At any time, you may change your information and there is no commitment period. You may cancel at any time for any reason.

Yellow Book has rolled out a new local advertising program that promises to take local businesses into the digital age much more quickly than they’d originally planned.
The new slogan is “Say Yellow To The Future” and they’ve evidently moved from a two-word name to a one-word name, nixing the walking fingers. From the online press release:
“Local businesses have relied on Yellowbook for more than 75 years to drive and support their client base,” said Gordon Henry, Yellowbook’s chief marketing officer. “While 87 percent of Americans use traditional yellow pages, there’s been exceptional growth online. Yellowbook.com has seen explosive growth in unique visitors, and our search engine advertising product, WebReach, has gained tremendous momentum. This campaign is part of our commitment to continued innovation and, importantly, to helping consumers find what they’re really looking for—wherever they search.”
It’s been known for some time now local consumers are ditching their Yellow Books in favor of online directories. Yellowbook.com is just one of those. Online yellow pages are growing in popularity every day. Local directories and advertising opportunities are on the rise as more local businesses grow more Internet savvy and learn to navigate the World Wide Web. If you have not already started you local advertising plan then you’re already behind the competition.

Now that the Yellow Pages are online, many people wonder if they really have the same impact. After all, there are an awful lot of places to search for a business online! However, it´s always a good idea to make sure that you have the opportunity to reach as many people as possible, so listing your business in the Yellow Pages is a great way to go.

The fact of the matter is that we like convenience and the Yellow Pages are definitely convenient, providing businesses instantly in your area and all the contact information that goes with them.
If you aren´t advertising on the online Yellow Pages, perhaps it´s time to start thinking about it. It could end up being one of the best investments you´ve ever made. Ever since people have started really using the internet to find local businesses, the Yellow Pages have been taking a hit. People say that the print version of the famous phone directory is not very environmentally friendly, being sent to millions of people, some of whom will never even open it.
While the print version of the Yellow Pages had its heyday, these days, we are looking at local online advertising as being far more sustainable and more and more environmentalists are pointing to printed directories as being very non-environmentally friendly.
If you want your business to stay on the greener side of things, you might want to consider the option of online Yellow Pages, though the print version is looking like it will become an opt-in only offer soon.

There has been a lot of talk lately about allowing people to opt out of receiving a print copy of the Yellow Pages, but it looks like it might actually happen, at least in some places. In fact, just such a proposal was passed in Cambridge recently, though the process of actually phasing out print Yellow Pages is still in the planning stages.
“We don’t use Yellow Pages anymore. Most people use the Internet to look up a phone number,” said Seidel.
Seidel said an environmentally friendly constituent was concerned about all the paper wasted to print the books and approached him with the idea.
Although the City Council unanimously passed the proposal, the scheme is still in its preliminary stages, and it’s unclear how the city would enforce such a measure.
If one area ends up allowing opt outs for print versions of the Yellow Pages, this could easily spread. It´s great for the environment and may even encourage more people to use the internet for their communication needs. With the online version of the Yellow Pages being far more ecologically friendly, some groups will be pushing for this anyway.

The Yellow Pages aren´t going anywhere, according to a recent press release by the company. Both online and offline versions of the Yellow Pages have been doing well and there is certainly no sign of either one dying out anytime soon, according the press release.
“The Yellow Pages medium is still a go-to resource for ready-to-buy consumers. Overall Yellow Pages usage increased in 2007 as Internet use continues to grow and print usage stabilizes,” said Neg Norton, president of YPA, which represents a $31 billion Yellow Page industry worldwide. “Combined with a 27:1 average sales ROI for national display advertisers (1), the Yellow Pages in all formats is a ‘must-buy’ medium for advertisers of all sizes.”
The Yellow Pages print version was still being used by 87% of the population in 2007, meaning that it is still a very popular advertising medium. While more and more people are using the internet to do searches, it is obvious that print is still pretty commonly used, as well. This past year, though, online Yellow Pages visitors went up by 16%, so that is also a good place to advertise for businesses of all sizes.
With so much upheaval lately in all areas of local advertising, it´s good to know that there is a consistent area, the Yellow Pages, to both use for local advertising, both online and off, as well as research.

While it is free to list your business on the online Yellow Pages, there are several Premium options that will cost you a yearly fee. Many business owners look at the price tag and wonder if it is really necessary it is to add premium features to their Yellow Pages listing.
If you go into the online Yellow Pages to look for a business, you will end up seeing a list of business names with their basic info below, phone number and address. It works well for anyone who knows what they want and who already has an idea as to which local business they would like to use. For everyone else, it will pretty much be a random selection!
Having something to set your Yellow Pages ad apart from the rest can really help people decide to go with you. There are several options and you certainly don´t have to choose video if you don´t want to, but having an image of your product or even your logo will help those searching the Yellow Pages online make their decision.
Studies have shown that for the majority of people, 65% of the time spent looking at ads is used to examine the image or photo. The remaining 35% is spent reading the text . . . making images far more important. A picture or even a small graphic can set you apart from everyone else doing local advertising on the Yellow Pages and bring you more business over a long period of time.

For Canadian Yellow Pages advertisers, their recent press release holds some interesting information. Businesses with a listing on the online version of the Canadian Yellow Pages will shortly have the ability to enhance their listing page with video, photos and custom information. It will no longer be limited to a phone number and address.
From the Yellow Pages Group:
“The introduction of the new Profile Plus is yet another clear example of YPG’s commitment to using the latest technologies to bring businesses and consumers together and to making buying and selling easier and more productive for all concerned,” explains Jean-Pascal Lion, Vice President of Marketing, Yellow Pages Group. “Given that more Canadians than ever are viewing online videos, we are convinced that the video service will provide advertisers with a more compelling and value-added vehicle for bringing their business offerings to more customers.”
Once the new Yellow Pages Profile Plus system is up and running, businesses will be able to get a lot more value from their business listings, as well as offering more information to the general public. We´ll be keeping an eye on this one.

This is why I like Marketing Pilgrim:
This is delivered through a partnership with AT&T—the apps are available for not only the iPhone but 20 other AT&T devices. It looks like you may be out of luck unless you have an AT&T phone. Of course, since AT&T owns YellowPages.com, this isn’t entirely surprising.
Report the news then get sly:
Now, is it just me, or does forcing your users to go to your website kind of defeat the purpose of creating a downloadable web app?
I must admit, Jordan McCollum has a point. It seems to me that YellowPages.com, though it is owned by AT&T, would seek to develop relationships with the millions of mobile phone users out there that are under contract with other service providers. But I do like the features that come with the YellowPages.com mobile search:
- Search for local restaurants, stores, ATMs, gas stations, airports and more.
- Save your favorite searches, locations or businesses and access them on the go.
-
Map businesses and get turn-by-turn directions to or from your home, other businesses, favorite places, or recent searches.
- Choose directions tailored to your method of transportation - by auto, bike, or even by foot.
- Auto-complete feature remembers your favorite search terms and saves you time and effort.
The great thing about these services is that your local business does not have to be an AT&T customer in order to market your services to mobile phone users in your area. All you need is a business and something to advertise.

Yellowpage.com has a useful service they call YP411.
All you do is send a text message (SMS) to YP411 (97411) from your mobile phone and you can ask where the nearest pizza joint or massage parlor is. Well, if you’re not looking for pizza or a massage then you can ask where the day care center is, or whatever it is you’re looking for.
The way it works is like this:
You type YP411, or 97411, and type in what you are looking for in the message field on your mobile phone along with your zip code or city and state. Hit send and your mobile phone will display up to three businesses of that type in your area. Your mobile phone will also display links to maps and driving directions as well as a link for more information on each listing.
So how can you, as a small business owner, tap into this? That’s easy. You just register your business at Yellowpage.com and if someone is looking for your type of business in your area then have the potential to be one of those that are listed when someone makes an SMS query from their mobile phone.

There is more to the online Yelllow Pages than simply a database full of businesses with contact information. You can also advertise on the Yellow Pages with display advertising, much like you can with the print Yellow Pages. It’s hard to argue with 74% of the consumers who visit YellowPages.com who claim to contact the merchant and the 55% who actually make a purchase. These are actual advertisers on the Yellow Pages online.
If you want Yellow Pages advertising, let us set it up for you. We won’t just make you look good. We’ll actually manage your local advertising for maximum effectiveness. Learn more about local online advertising through the Yellow Pages today.

One of the best places to advertise your local business online is with Yellowpages.com. Since most people go online to find local services then drive to make their purchase, or call, it is entirely logical to expect the reputation of the Yellow Pages to migrate online. More and more people every day are going online to find what they need locally. It just makes good business sense to advertise online.
The Yellow Pages is a staple of American business. That’s why people are using it - even on the Internet. And you should too.
With Yellowpages.com, you can advertise your business to local residents and they can call you or visit you based on your online ad. With your ad you can include the products and services you offer, the hours you are open, payment methods you accept, and other pertinent information. There’s no reason not to advertise in the Yellow Pages online.

If you haven’t heard yet, people are abandoning the traditional print Yellow Pages in droves. Every day, more and more people go online to shop for products and services. While they may not make their purchases online, they are nevertheless shopping online. Here’s the way it the shopping cycle is beginning to work with over 90% of consumers:
- Consumer goes online to shop for what they need (let’s use a digital camera, for example)
- Consumer Google’s “digital camera”
- After clicking on three or four top links on the Google SERP, the consumer finds a comparison table for the most popular brands of digital camera
- She spends a couple of hours comparing features and finally decides on the camera she would like to buy
- She writes down the model and maker of the digital camera she wants to buy
- The consumer then drives to the nearest retail outlet to purchase that camera (after looking up the address on Google Local
It’s absolutely true. More and more consumers are shopping online then driving to make their purchases. They use their Yellow Pages for stepping stools.
