Following a dramatic event an individual can begin to exhibit certain behavioural characteristics that are generally considered to be negative.  One of these is the impression that we are worthless.  These negative self perception feelings begin to seep into self-esteem and the idea of one’s importance to others.  This strong self-criticism can also lead to an individual pushing away those around them as they feel that they are not worthy of affection or respect.

Other factors include a difficulty to recall events before the dramatic incident occurred.  Fragmented and disjointed memory begins to play on the mind and fuels the negative self perception that was mentioned previously. Furthermore, it’s also extremely common for the individual to begin to show extremes of emotion and reaction to daily events and all the general behaviour of others.  Ultimately the individual can become disassociated from friends, family and Society in general as they struggle to comprehend the changes to their mental structure.
